Amy Mechling, a Sci-Lit Links instructor, presented a science-literature linked program during the MAIS Conference in Madrid. Titled “Down and Dirty Science,” Amy had participants observe and make inferences about mystery critters that turned out to be Isopods—sow bugs, pill bugs or rolypolies. Teachers examined the Isopods with bug boxes, observed and discussed their characteristics and behavior, shared poems written by her Immaculate Conception (Clarion, PA) students, and linked the science activity with two interesting books about Isopods, Rolypolyology and A Pill Bug’s Life.
The following photos show the MAIS participants doing “Down and Dirty Science.”
