…from Carla Beltramini, International School of Trieste “Hi to you two (Amy and Ken). I’ve been busy testing out the Sci-Lit activities we did in the Madrid program and having fun too! I’m giving an afternoon workshop next week on what we learned. I’m going to present only a few of the activities, of course—wish me luck.”
…from Katie Kane, American International School of Lisbon “I really enjoyed the pre-conference…I did a staff development meeting with the teachers in my school (using Little Lumpty and the egg catchers). They were all very enthusiastic about the ideas and FOUR of our EC4-Gr3 teachers want to join me in trying to get Sci-Lit Links off the ground, and add some new ideas to the web site. I’m pleased that I managed to convey my enthusiasm to them! They are all fabulous teachers and I am confident that they will come up with some fantastic lessons.…"
Katie reported that she was starting to do the egg drop with her 3rd grade students, working in pairs. “Should be smashing!” says Katie.
Katie goes on to say that she and her colleagues are seeing huge potential benefits in using Sci-Lit Links with students in their first year of learning English.
…from Sara Zarzo, the American School of Las Palmas “I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the Pre-Conference in Madrid. The workshop was great and inspiring! Lina and I have already written our action plan for what we hope to achieve this year using Sci-Lit in the classroom, and we plan to start ‘leaking’ into other classrooms soon.".
…from EJ Velure, Lower School Principal, George Washington Academy "Dr. Mechling, Greetings from George Washington Academy in sunny Casablanca. We, onthe science committee, have been busy adapting what I learned in Rome into our science curriculum k-5. We have created six lesson plans for each level and are asking teachers to add more plans as they create them. We use the AR Reading program, so the students are able to earn AR points after each lesson. Our third grade is taught science in Arabic. Very little is written in Arabic at this level, so the Arabic teachers are writing stories and also translating stories from English and French. I have requested other teachers to put their lesson plans on the web site, hopefully they will be forth coming. Thank you for all your hard work, because of it, I think we will soon have a strong science program in place that also strengthens our reading program."
