| | 2001 Madrid K-3 Teacher Training Session Sounds, Trees & Fish
| 1 2 3 4 5 |
Dr. Ken Mechling, Sci-Lit Links instructor and project director, teaches about sound, making soda straw kazoos to test vibration, pitch and amplitude. |
| The Sci-Lit Links orchestra practices with their kazoos. Dr. Mechling followed the sound activities by reading the book, Sounds All Around. |
| Amy begins the next series of activities on trees by reading the book, Once There Was a Tree. Children’s literature in Sci-Lit Links is sometimes read before the activities, sometimes during, and sometimes at the end. |
| Participants return from an outdoor leaf collecting expedition, observe leaf characteristics, and make and compare leaf prints. |
| Dr. Mechling has the participants make fish sticks, classify themselves into schools, and avoid predatory tuna. These simulations were connected with the popular children’s book, Swimmy. |
