MAIS SCI-LIT LINKS
Overview

Sci-Lit Links is designed to have MAIS K-6 teachers connect activity-centered science with children’s literature.

The project goals are to:
1. assist MAIS schools to meet USA Science Standards.
2. prepare Sci-Lit Link leadership teams to enhance children’s learning experiences in science and reading.
3. provide electronic venues for teacher information and interaction.
4. construct an electronic “bank” of science-literature connected lessons.
5. develop a science-literature model for sharing with international schools worldwide.

Sci-Lit Links is comprised of three phases:
Instruction, Implementation, and Dissemination.

Instruction-MAIS teachers will be prepared (K-3 in Madrid in 2001 and 4-6 in Rome in 2002) to: 1.) link science and literature in their own classrooms, 2.) disseminate Sci-Lit Links to other teachers in their schools, and 3.) share Sci-Lit Links lesson plans (QuickPlans) and other related information via the internet.

Implementation-Participating teachers actively implement Sci-Lit Links in their own classrooms and share linking strategies with their school colleagues.

Dissemination-Teachers spread science-literature links to other teachers via this web site (www.scilitlinks.org) and on a CD to be distributed by the U.S. Department of State.
